The Hon’ble Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Smt. Raksha Nikhil Khadse, today visited Hemya Village under the ongoing Viksit Bharat Vibrant Village Program, an initiative aimed at empowering border villages through youth engagement, community participation, and cultural exchange. During her visit, the Hon’ble Minister interacted with the participants of MY Bharat Ladakh, who are currently undertaking a cultural and educational tour of the border villages of Changthang. The participants shared their experiences and learnings from their interactions with local communities, highlighting the rich cultural heritage, unique way of life, and developmental aspirations of the people residing in these remote border areas. The program was attended by Shri Tashi Namgyal, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Leh Frontier, Shri Nitish Rajora, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, Changthang, UT Ladakh, Shri Zaheer Abbas Jafri (JKPS), Senior Superintendent of Police, Changthang, and Ms. Tajamul Ara, State Director, MY Bharat, UT Ladakh, along with officers of MY Bharat, ITBP, district administration, and other dignitaries. The visit provided an invaluable opportunity for the participants to engage directly with policymakers and senior officials, further inspiring them to become active contributors to the nation’s progress and development.

The 6th Senior Men’s State Handball Championship commenced today at the Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, setting the stage for a high-voltage contest between leading teams from both Leh and Kargil districts. A total of eight teams—four from each district—are competing for top honours in this year’s much-awaited sporting event. The opening ceremony featured a distinguished lineup of guests. Former Executive Councillor and Councillor Choskore Nasir Hussain Munshi presided as Chief Guest, while Advocate Khadim Hussain, Councillor Baroo, attended as Guest of Honour. Advocate Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Nominated Councillor, joined as Special Guest. Several prominent sports officials also graced the occasion, including Shamim Kacho (Vice President, Ladakh Archery Association), Haji Mohd Ali Rangyoul (President, AKTTA), Anayat Ali (General Secretary, Ladakh Taekwondo Association), Stanzin Phalgais (Joint Secretary, Ladakh Handball Association), Baqir Ali (General Secretary, Ladakh Handball Association), and Mohd Yaseen (President, Kargil Handball Association). The tournament was officially declared open when the Chief Guest passed the ball, symbolically initiating the competition.

The Union Territory of Ladakh has marked a historic milestone in its sporting journey as the Ladakh Archery Team delivered an impressive performance at the Senior Archery National Championships held in Hyderabad. Competing against teams from 31 states and union territories, the Ladakh team showcased exceptional skill, determination, and resilience on the national stage. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, the team successfully qualified for the Round of 16 and secured a commendable victory against Punjab. Advancing further, Ladakh faced a tough challenge in the quarterfinals against Andhra Pradesh, where the match concluded in a nail-biting finish. Despite a narrow defeat by just two points, the team’s performance stood out as one of the most memorable moments of the championship. This outstanding effort earned Ladakh a historic qualification for the upcoming National Games, making it one of the most significant achievements in the region’s modern sports history. The Ladakh team comprised Hussain Phokar, Nurboo Phyang, Nubu Thiksay, and Ali Sanku, whose collective effort and dedication brought pride to the entire region.
