Strong Participation from Across Ladakh in Senior Men’s State Handball Championship

The 6th Senior Men’s State Handball Championship commenced today at the Khree Sultan Choo Sports Stadium, setting the stage for a high-voltage contest between leading teams from both Leh and Kargil districts. A total of eight teams—four from each district—are competing for top honours in this year’s much-awaited sporting event. The opening ceremony featured a distinguished lineup of guests. Former Executive Councillor and Councillor Choskore Nasir Hussain Munshi presided as Chief Guest, while Advocate Khadim Hussain, Councillor Baroo, attended as Guest of Honour. Advocate Riyaz Ahmad Khan, Nominated Councillor, joined as Special Guest. Several prominent sports officials also graced the occasion, including Shamim Kacho (Vice President, Ladakh Archery Association), Haji Mohd Ali Rangyoul (President, AKTTA), Anayat Ali (General Secretary, Ladakh Taekwondo Association), Stanzin Phalgais (Joint Secretary, Ladakh Handball Association), Baqir Ali (General Secretary, Ladakh Handball Association), and Mohd Yaseen (President, Kargil Handball Association). The tournament was officially declared open when the Chief Guest passed the ball, symbolically initiating the competition.

The Union Territory of Ladakh has marked a historic milestone in its sporting journey as the Ladakh Archery Team delivered an impressive performance at the Senior Archery National Championships held in Hyderabad. Competing against teams from 31 states and union territories, the Ladakh team showcased exceptional skill, determination, and resilience on the national stage. Demonstrating remarkable consistency, the team successfully qualified for the Round of 16 and secured a commendable victory against Punjab. Advancing further, Ladakh faced a tough challenge in the quarterfinals against Andhra Pradesh, where the match concluded in a nail-biting finish. Despite a narrow defeat by just two points, the team’s performance stood out as one of the most memorable moments of the championship. This outstanding effort earned Ladakh a historic qualification for the upcoming National Games, making it one of the most significant achievements in the region’s modern sports history. The Ladakh team comprised Hussain Phokar, Nurboo Phyang, Nubu Thiksay, and Ali Sanku, whose collective effort and dedication brought pride to the entire region.
