Amit Shah: Ladakhis were the nation’s first line of defence against external threats.


Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is on a two-day visit to Ladakh, on Friday (May 1, 2026) said Ladakhis have proven to be the first line of defence whenever the country faced external threats. He also highlighted the upward development graph of the region after attaining the Union Territory status in 2019. Addressing a gathering in Leh, Shah highlighted the strategic importance of Ladakh and acknowledged the courage, resilience, and dedication of its residents in safeguarding the nation’s borders. He noted that the people of the region have stood firmly with the country during challenging times and have played a vital role in maintaining peace and security along the frontier.

He said the central government remains committed to the development and welfare of the Union Territory, focusing on infrastructure, connectivity, tourism, education, and employment opportunities.
