PVR INOX opens India’s highest multiplex at 11,500 feet in Leh–Ladakh

PVR INOX has launched Leh–Ladakh’s first multiplex, making it India’s highest cinema at 11,500 feet. This marks a major leap in bringing modern entertainment to the region’s locals and travelers. PVR INOX Limited has taken a remarkable step forward by bringing cinema to one of the most breathtaking — and challenging — locations in the country. The company has officially launched Leh–Ladakh’s first multiplex, which also happens to be India’s highest cinema site, perched at an altitude of 11,500 feet above sea level. The new property, which is situated along the Leh–Manali Bypass Road in Solar Colony, Saboo, represents a significant expansion for PVR INOX Limited and a momentous occasion for the area. The opening of a contemporary multiplex is more than just a commercial venture for Ladakh, where life moves more slowly amid mountains, monasteries, and expansive skies.

LG reviews implementation of 4G Saturation project in Ladakh

The Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Kavinder Gupta, emphasised the critical need for uninterrupted network and internet connectivity in the modern world, underscoring the Digital India initiative led by PM Narendra Modi. Administrative Secretary, IT Department, Shashanka Ala, presented a detailed overview of the project funded through Digital Bharat Nidhi (formerly Universal Service Obligation Fund), utilizing indigenous Atmanirbhar Bharat 4G technology stack. She informed that 375 4G towers were sanctioned across Ladakh to ensure uninterrupted network and telecommunication services for residents in remote areas, including Army and ITBP personnel. Under beyond Category 3 (new site additions), 154 sites were offered by Deputy Commissioners following demands from Hill Councils, but BSNL cleared only 89 as eligible. Addressing the meeting, the LG highlighted network complaints raised by delegations during his field visits across Ladakh, terming it a serious issue requiring immediate resolution. He pointed out that various online portals launched by the UT Administration to enhance governance accessibility were rendered ineffective due to poor connectivity, particularly in remote and far-flung areas, depriving people of essential services. Kavinder instructed BSNL to coordinate joint inspections with both Deputy Commissioners for existing and new sites, and to distribute 4G SIMs replacing 2G in villages.
