Climate activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk may reconsider his position regarding the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) following a recent meeting with Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. According to the LG, Wangchuk has agreed to study the origins and objectives of the movement more closely and revisit his stance if necessary. The development comes weeks after Wangchuk publicly expressed support for the CJP movement, describing himself as an “honorary cockroach” and backing its calls for education reforms and accountability. He had also participated in protests organized by the group and voiced support for its peaceful democratic activities.
However, Wangchuk later clarified that he remained supportive of the movement’s broader concerns and was surprised by suggestions that he had distanced himself from the group. He emphasized that his support was rooted in issues affecting students and young people across the country. The latest remarks from the Ladakh LG have reignited discussion over Wangchuk’s association with the CJP. While no formal change in position has been announced, political observers believe his future statements could shape public perception of the rapidly growing youth-led movement.
